On 2 March 2009, the US Defense Department modified comments made by Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on Iran's atomic program.

On 1 March 2009, Mullen had said that Iran had enough nuclear material to make a bomb.

On 2 March 2009, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told reporters that Mullen was referring to the amount of low-enriched uranium produced by Iran.

This low-enriched uranium would have to be enhanced to weapons-grade uranium to be used in a nuclear bomb. (US seeks to clarify admiral's comment on Iran )
