On 2 November 2009, we read that Turkey-Iran ties are growing, as do question marks

On 2 November 2009, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan visited Iran.

Over the last few years, the two countries have increased their trade relations and their cooperation in the areas of security and energy.

Relations between NATO member Turkey and Iran have improved since the arrival of the ruling liberal Islamic Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2002.

Iran supplies almost a third of Turkey's gas supply.

Turkish officials congratulated Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmedinejad after his recent reelection.

Turkey and Iran share a 499-km border.

In an interview in the Guardian published on 26 October 2009, Turkey's Erdogan dismissed claims that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons as "gossip".

He called criticism of Iran's nuclear program by countries that themselves have nuclear weapons as "unfair", singling out Israel, in particular.
